Echo Farms 17391 Durrance Rd, North Fort Myers. There is also Ag office next to Terry Park (3406 Palm Beach Blvd- Ft Myers) that you could stop by, they have handouts on gardening and what to plant when... I am just getting started myself- I have tomatoes growing now- but one plant just died and the other throws random fruit. My green beans are doing great as is the zucchini plants. I am using a raised flower bed at our rental home,, but have been making soil in my composter for a couple months now- it breaks down really quick so the dirt should be pretty good to grow in. Right now according to the handout I picked up it states that okra, sweet potatoes are the only things that you can still plant now- Aug and Sept are the prime planting months it seems. Great info!!! Maybe I'll go to that. I'll be the one with my mouth wide open and a confused stare. Lol I just sowed seeds. Not sure when I was suppose to do it for august planting. I figured I could always grow indoors for a few weeks, then on the lanai for a few more, then in aug I'll stick them in the bed. If my plan fails, I'll know by July and I have extra seeds. |

On the Univ of Florida link I sent you, when it's talking about dates, it means SOW dates....so you would sow seeds in September to be ready for harvest in October. Then sow seeds again in late Jan/ February for your Spring garden for harvest in March/April+. |

This is my first year for planting a garden in Feb. And I am pleased with what we have produced but it sure has taken a lot of water. Tomatoes grew like crazy, green beans and snow peas didn't do so well. Watermelon, cukes, squash, peppers, eggplant and pumpkin are all still producing. Lettuce has slowed down.Take the time to visit Echo... great people working for a great cause and they are full of information. Pick up an Okinawa spinach plant..grows year round, great taste, plus once it is started you can take clippings and start more plants. They also have Katuk which grows easy here, it is not very tasteful so it works well mixed with other greens. I tried there cranberry hibicus, I love the taste but can't seem to make it grow in abundance, seems to want to grow one tall stalk. As for sprouts, I grow them inside so of course they will grow year round |

Maybe I'll get lucky? I am in NJ now but my neighbor in the Cape just planted in April some pots with tomato plants and they are baring some fruit now. She has an upside down tomato plant and it is way long growing too. I could never get my lettuce to grow right. It bolted from the heat so I gave it up. When I get back to the Cape I am going to try tomatoes and peppers.. yummy. |

I was wondering if it is safe to eat vegetables grown with the sewerage treated water in Cape Coral. |

No, they say not to use city nonpotable irrigation on veggie gardens unless it's a veg you peel. I hand water from my house... My water bill was 178 this month. Once rain season gets here, I hope to not water as much. |
